Megans Law He walked the streets of Hamilton New Jersey with a mission to mutilate and destroy hidden in the shadows of the darkness What was it that possessed this being to commit such a malicious crime taking the life of an innocent 7 year old girl Twice convicted pedophile Jesse Timmendequass horrific crime caused legislatures to pass what is known as Megans Law or the Sex Offender Notification Law Although not all states have passed the law those that have passed it have done so in light of many reasons Some of these reasons are because it forewarns surrounding families of a convicted sex offender because of how rape and sex offense crimes effect the victims and lastly because protecting the life and mentality of the children is so important Even those who are against Megans Law are still against rape Any type of sexual offense whether it is physical emotional or verbal is threatening and can scar the victim In a sense rape is like being burglarized both leave you with a sense of insecurity and hatred Once victimized by either of these crimes walking into a dark house or even being in a parking deck alone can be frightening situations Just imagine that the life of young Megan Kanka could have been saved if only the town had been warned when Timmendequas and his two pedophiliac roommates moved in In the summer of 1994 he kidnapped her raped her and then proceeded to kill her by strangulation with a belt until her mouth bled and to ensure that she would die he covered her head with a plastic bag After dumping her body in a local park the killer joined the party searching for Kanka In the name of this little girl Megans Law protects families and towns from these criminals in three ways releasing their names to newspapers notifying schools and child care centers and allowing access to the lists upon
