A covenant is a binding agreement between two people in this case between God and Abraham The covenant that is shared between Abraham and God is a holy one that is to be carried out for all eternity as depicted by God himself This is described in the passages in the Bible from Genesis verses twelve through seventeen The covenant between Abraham and God begins in Haran when God told Abram before his name was changed to Abraham to leave his country his people and his fathers household and go to the land that God shows him In that passage it already shows that Abram has great faith in God since he is willing leave everything that he knows for possible doom in some foreign land Gods promise for doing this is the covenant itself I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you I will make your name great and you will be a blessing I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse God also gave Abram land for his family to flourish in and for this he built two alters one when he was first informed of this gift and the second was constructed between Ai and Bethel to show his gratitude for his covenant The covenant between Abram and God was now established The first display of God adhering to this covenant was where Abram went to rescue his nephew Lot who was captured by the four kings Lot and all of his possessions were recovered I believe this was because of the covenant with God that said those who curse you will themselves be cursed The kings took Lot who was a relative of Abram so in a way that depicts harming one of Abrams relatives and therefore Abram punished the kings for their wrongdoing In Genesis chapter fifteen Abram told God that he did not have any direct
