The word bravery can often be interchanges with the words of courage or daring but what defines courage The Merriam-Webster Online dictionary states mental or moral strength to venture persevere and withstand danger fear or difficulty Another words bravery means the defense of many things at own personal loss or risk The defense of ones or others country the defense of beliefsor principles and the defense of the weak When the word courage is said the image that is often seen is one that is at war This is very true it is very heroic to defend ones country and the freedom of the country For example during World War 2 the French soldiers all set up bunkers to defend against the fascist Nazis from taking over France those soldiers are courageous because they put themselves at a personal risk to defend their country Even more gallant is defending someone elses country such as Canada did in World War 1 when Canada send hundreds of thousands of volunteer soldiers to the trenches in France and Russia to help fend off the German attacks These Canadian soldiers showed great bravery because these volunteer soldiers fought with enemies that were not in direct threat of their own country Many Canadian soldiers died or were injured due to the war this shows courage because they defended someone elses country at their own personal peril One may not think of this as courage but it is Defending and dieing for ones beliefs and ideologies is very courageous This can be for either religious or moral beliefs All through time certain religious groups have been prosecuted because of their religious beliefs For example right after the 911 incident Muslims were hated by a lot of Americans but many of them kept on practicing their religions beliefs out in the open because they stand for it even at a own personal risk Another good example is the Buddhists burning themselves in
