At one point in our history we fit into the pattern We are another of the Earths multitudes of creatures that lived in a delicate balance Whenever we take something from the Earth we have returned something else We have helped maintain the proper order of things No longer is this so As we gain sentience we have realized the possibilities of breaking out of the order that nature has set and customizing the planet to our needs We have harvested the natural elements from the earth to invent such useful items as cars telephones airplanes and power plants We are no longer constrained by our own physical abilities It has brought about a renaissance in knowledge it has also brought about an ecological disaster of an extent never before witnessed A cornerstone of the environmentalist movement is that one person can make a difference You may seem insignificant but what you do really matters However this is only a half-truth In the greater scheme of things you are insignificant One person out of more than billions of people will not affect the world However many people who on their own try to help our planet can make all the difference If many people take it upon themselves to do what they can to be environmentally-friendly then the combination of those many individuals would slow if not reverse the damage that has been caused One of the things that causes a person to pause before even considering changing his lifestyle is the false impression that it will require large expenditures of time and effort However the little things do count Mending your ways may only cost you less than a s few minutes a day In the end you must not alter what you do out of a forced obligation to the environment that will only instill an animosity towards the planet You must do it because you want to
