Time Management In the field of Early Childhood time management is critical because of the nature of the job I have read and took classes to give me insight to how to plan my time and prioritize The importance of learning this technique and skill will help in building professionalism and bring credibility to this field There are many ways and hints to help develop this skill therefore giving more time for children and families There are many things that can steal time from us The first step to time management is looking at what we do with our time and where we are wasting time Keeping a daily journal of what you do with your time is a helpful way to see how you are spending it Doing this for a week can give you a idea of areas that could be changed It is best to keep track in 15 minute increments and fill in every thing that you do such as phone calls when children need help and setting up After this has been done then examine areas and things that could be eliminated through prevention Look at planning Do you plan ahead and have materials ready for the activity that you will do with children Do you have a routine or schedule Is the environment creating problems that children cannot self regulate Like to much open space thus creating running in the classroom Do you have clear goals Knowing what you want to accomplish during the day will help to set the tone and give you energy to complete tasks Are materials organized so one can find things quickly Are shelves and cupboards labeled Are there areas that you can delegate to volunteers assistants or helpers After examining these areas then make a plan to begin by changing one thing at a time I have found that organizing my work space is one of the first things I
