City of Forests Growing up around a park I had lots of rules to follow My mother set guidelines for what I couldnt do She said the park is A breeding ground for bugs disease and bad children Debra Case Walking through nature gives me a sense of well being in my busy adolescent life The smooth breeze in my face and the smell of the river meeting with freshly ripened purple violets remains in my mind every day As a child I grew up around Black Hawk Park in Rock Island a place I would grow to love and admire The area is used typically as a gathering place for family reunions and parties It also proves to be an amazing place to relax This community attraction displays the special things we have but seldom take advantage of The first time I came to Black Hawk Park I was truly ignorant of the concept of Fun without a cost I lived very close to the historic attraction but rarely came near it I found myself too caught up in material things to realize the value of the park I was an active child and read a lot so information was something I couldnt get enough of As I grew older bicycles became a hobby and I always wanted a better bike I started working for neighbors to support this hobby of mine Work caught up with me and soon I found myself working sixteen hours a week life was too busy One day I realized that I could use the park as a place to ride so I decided I would go and adventure It seemed amazing what this place had to offer fun and yet it was free something that was so hard for me to grasp as a child Maturity allowed me to realize how foolish I was in earlier years The park had many things to offer for lessons
