It's clear from your response that you read the article and considered the evidence the article provides. I'd like to encourage you to demonstrate more control over the article by approaching it from a rhetorical angle: that is, describe the rhetorical situation (who wrote the article, where did it appear, who is the audience) and consider if it is effective in establishing its position and persuading the readers. This will help separate the various layers, which are somewhat muddled in the sentence "Even though Bush is trying to make me, the reader, think that..." (implying Bush wrote the article). Using this approach, you can examine if your opinion matches up with the opinion the article hopes to communicate to its audience.

On the other hand, if the purpose is to examine Bush and Gore as rhetors or evaluate their logic, make this purpose clear in your response right off the bat."
