When people want independence they want it immediately but it is not that easy Independence takes many steps The path of life has many forks of independence When you get to an important one you will know in your heart what to do Jean Valjean always knew what to do In his life he had many steps towards independence His first step was attempting to escape from jail numerous times Although he was never successful it was still a step After he finally got out of jail he took another step He became Monsieur Madeline This was a big step because he went from relying on steeling and begging to make a living to owning a business and employing hundreds of people Sadly in time this attempt also failed Once again he tries to redeem himself and saves Cosette He is successful at this but his history catches up to him again By the end of the book Jean Valjean who was once a poor man with nothing going for him is completely independent and self reliant Even Ender Wiggin who was very young took many independent steps Ender had multiple decisions to make regarding his independence and the independence of the entire world In the beginning Ender had to decide one way or the other if he wanted to go to the battle school or stay at home with his beloved sister This meant deciding become independent from his parents and siblings or staying home and having security Later in life Ender is forced to learn independently when Bonzo the platoon leader will not teach him This is hard for him because he could either just sit there and not learn anything or find creative ways to learn besides from his appointed teacher Once he overcomes these obstacles he must choose to explore the caves that the buggers built him from his dreams In this instance Ender is becoming independent from his
