Bridget's feedback:
"This essay showcases your control over Voltaire's text and its context. This is a compelling and persuasive argument with a good use of evidence and outside sources to comment and explore the ideas. Occasionally a paragraph will feel prematurely ended, as in the ending of the Lisbon earthquake paragraph: consider a quotation or brief description of Voltaire's poem so that when you return to Pangloss' argument, we really understand the contrast and the tone of the critique. Similarly, you note how Byng's execution inspired Voltaire; any thoughts on why Voltaire used something personal or what effect this has on the text?
I do advise a final proofread and check before submitting your essay. A recurring issue I notice is that Candide is italicized even when referring to the character."
