Section A Biography on author John Howard Griffin was born in Dallas Texas on June 161920 He is famous for being a very talented writer In his life he wrote over eleven books John was not going to be a writer During WWII he served with the French Resistance Army until he was blinded John was only nineteen He was blind from 1946 to 1957 During that time he wrote five novels two of them were published Two years after John Howard Griffin regained his sight in 1957 he wrote his most important book The books title is Black Like Me This story was written from an experience he had In 1956 he dyed his skin so that he would pass for a black man For six weeks he experienced how blacks were treated in the South The other books he wrote include The Devil Rides Outside 1952 Nuni 1956 Land Of High Sky 1959 The Church and The Black Man 1969 A Time to be Human 1977 Maritain Homage in Words and Pictures 1974 The Hermitage Journals 1981 After writing all these wonderful books John Howard Griffin passed away in Fort Worth on September 9 1980 He will always be remembered as a brave man who crossed the line of racism Section B Characters in book John Howard Griffin This book is his diary about the events that took place in his journey in the white south Mr Griffin is the main character He white man who makes himself black by taking pigmentation pills and using stain John is a writer and would like to see the differences in treatment of both races This story really only has one character He goes through his experince for six weeks yet never seems to run into anyone more than once George Levitan Johns friend a supporter of his idea to play a black man George is worried but also cant
