England is a very diverse country with varying peoples climates and agriculture It has a fascinating history culture and geography While England is a rich and developed country many of its people are spiritually poor This leaves many opportunities for the Lords work England is part of the United Kingdom It is bordered by Scotland to the north Wales to the southwest across the St Georges Channel the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and in the south across the English Channel is Europe It is also bordered by the North Sea to the northeast and the Irish Sea to the east England is a land of low hills and plateaus and a 2000-mile coastline cut into by bays coves and estuaries To the north is the Pennine Chain which splits northern England into northwestern and northeastern sections Englands major river the Thames is approximately 205 miles long The river was biologically dead in the 1950s but changing land use together with improved pollution control have brought dramatic improvements in the quality of the water and a renewed abundance of fish This factor has made fishing a major business in the Thames river area Because of the many seas and oceans that surround England it has a very wet climate The average rainfall is approximately 30 inches The average temperature is 17F The average July temperature is 81F The vegetation and animals of England are generally the same as the United States Some good examples are the grey fox the squirrel many varieties of owls and even the hedgehog However England is suffering a major crisis with its livestock Many of the animals are contracting Mad Cow Disease a disease for which there is no cure They have to be slaughtered This is having a major effect on the livestock industry in England and in all of Europe Englands natural resources are tin oil
