There are many factors that affect the feelings and emotions that single parents experience while raising their children alone Some of these factors include economics societies perceptions of single parenthood and the loss of ones independence One major factor that influences the emotions of a single parent is money Experts predict that it cost between 160000 and 237000 to raise a child through age 17 When you have a child your instinct tells you to stay home and take care of that child If you are a single parent you are most likely the breadwinner and therefore staying home is not an option Unless you are lucky enough to be able to bring your child to work or work from home you are forced to deal with the pain of having someone else raise your child while you go to work Not only do single parents feel guilty because they have had to give their children into the charge of other people during the workday they may feel doubly guilty as they recognize that when they return home with the children they are too tired or stressed to be truly available to the children Not only that being at work everyday single parents often miss many exciting moments in their childs life Childcare itself can cost up to 20000 a year Many single parents barely make enough money to pay for living expenses and childcare Because of this many single mothers especially turn to Welfare There are a lot of stigmas attached to being a single parent Society often causes single parents to feel as though they are failures because they have failed to marry or keep their marriage together Single parent families are often considered broken homes Some studies say that children from single-parent families have lower self -esteem While other studies say that children from single-parent homes have higher self-esteem because they have to learn to be independent Studies
