Descriptive Exposition Lake Gaston water is a water of dilution Voluminous sensitive and embracing drops jump from the surface sprawling upon the trampoline that suspends me a foot above seemingly infinite depth The cat cuts through the water as if it were meant to be there my presence merely a coincidence The houses which dot the shoreline become nothing more than ceramic figurines like those painted by middle class housewives No one else exists other than the occasional boater whose reflective sunglasses prevent true human interaction On good days the sky is only a few shades darker than the water The water like the sky and so many other things is perfectly transparent when held in my hands but transforms into the deepest blue imaginable given enough distance It is also on these good days when an awesome talent creeps slowly into my mind I dreamingly believe that this skill comes from the water itself vaporizing into the air as if it were matter Then finding its way to my nose intoxicates me with a euphoric link to nature Like a ballet of cotton balls orchestrated by the wind and played out on the Carolina Blue stage of the sky the clouds movement becomes something tangible Minutes ahead of time I can feel which clouds will break apart and which clouds will eventually converge The ballet played out by the clouds unwinds into an all day festival I am transmitted through my isolated world by a beautiful vessel Made of now dented and discolored die cast metal thick burly mold sustaining canvas and puke green plastic the 1972 Hobbie Cat is as good as new The fourteen-foot sail with the faded remnants of the once appeared logo just barely visible reaches into the sky as if the boat itself is trying to catch the wind The rudders tinted with coffee brown water stains are controlled by a thin metal rod Held between toes I
