Jim's feedback:
"As a plural form, “arts” should be used with the verb “were.” I am unsure why you place “arts” in quotation marks. Note that “African American” is not hyphenated. A comma should be placed after a month, day, and year. You fail to separate a city and state with a comma. You follow a period with a comma. You tend to omit words. For example, you say, “Carrie brought to see plays,” but you do not say who she brought. There is an element of redundancy to the referral to racism as well as trials and tribulations. You confuse “negate” with “neglect.” You identify Carrie as his mother in successive paragraphs. There is no reason to hyphenate “so much so.” Avoid mixing tenses in descriptions. “All together” is one word: “altogether.” Book and newspaper titles should be italicized. You do not properly match subjects and verbs, e.g., “he have.” Your writing has many grammatical issues. You should run a grammar check to identify and correct problems, and read through your work to find errors and refine your expression."
