Mass Communications As television programming has progressed over the years many shows have stood out as being unique or extraordinary in either their success or in their content Freaks and Geeks had the capability of being a hit however bad release timing silenced that hope With its release Digimon Digital Monsters created a production standard that is still in practice today With its international popularity revolutionary filming techniques and production practices ahead of its time I Love Lucy is considered one of the greatest television shows ever created When Freaks and Geeks first aired on NBC it was a breath of fresh air in the otherwise stagnant space that was prime time TV The story itself was fairly simple To teenagers trying to survive high school and finding their place in the big picture Although the show gained national and international acclaim it only lasted a mere 18 episodes The primary reason for the short life of this unique show was the timing of its release It became caught in a TV tug-of-war for prime time spots for new reality TV shows such as Survivor and Who Wants to be a Millionaire With the push to put these shows in the prime time spots Freaks and Geeks was pushed aside and soon forgotten Afterward NBC denied renewal to Freaks and Geeks contract However with a cult following backing the show it is likely the show will be picked up by cable networks and re-aired in the near future When it aired Fall 2001 on Fox Digimon Digital Monsters was an average anime However what made this show revolutionary was the speed at which it was released in America The average Japanese Animation or Anime for short takes and average one to one and a half years to be officially licensed and released in America Each Digimon episode however was being aired a mere two weeks after its Japanese counterpart This also prevented another problem
