Rock and Roll in the 1960s Rock and roll in the 1960s undertook some major changes The style of music referred to as rock and roll simply became known as rock during the 1960s Many new artists came about during this time period that were instrumental in the development of a completely new generation This period was an enlightenment to many young people who started experimenting with new things Rock and roll has commonly been used to designate a range of popular music styles that flourished from the late 1940s to the mid 1960s By 1966 and 67 new styles began to emerge that were different enough to be designated under the short term of rock Koskoff 347 Some of the musical groups that lead this new style of rock were Creedence Clearwater Revival the Rolling Stones Grateful Dead the Byrds Led Zeppelin and the Beatles Koskoff 348 These new bands started a new trend in music that dealt with politics and rebellion Some of these are the most well known bands in the world and they all began during the 1960s The Beatles had their first successful single named Please Please Me in 1963 which skyrocketed to 1 in the UK charts the same year that the Rolling Stones were formed These two bands were the first to start this new movement They were followed by such bands as the Byrds and Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1964 Grateful Dead in 1966 and Led Zeppelin in 1968 Bonds 24476195137196 Also in the 1960s the first North American magazines dedicated to discussing this new form of music were started Some of the leaders in this area were Crawdaddy and Rolling Stone which is still extremely popular today Koskoff 348 They focused on new artists that were popping up during the 1960s and moved on though the decades Rolling Stone is still doing the same things today The popularity of this new form of music
