The Staples brothers were two young African American men that were raised in Chester Pennsylvania Blake and Brent residence surroundings was heavily black and heavily poor Though a decade apart we both were raised in Chester Pennsylvania an angry heavily black heavily poor industrial city southwest of Philadelphia 194 The two brothers were raised in a very violent drug filled neighborhood growing up the young men was traumatized by violence especially young Blake At the age of twenty-two Blake was fiercely murder he was shot six times Wearing a ski mask he emerged form a car fired six times at close range with a massive 44 Magnum then fled 194 Hearing about his brother death Brent was inflamed with anger and grief because of the way his brother was living he was bound to kill or be murder just as statics showed And when he died he was in that groupblack male and in its teens and early 20s-that is far and away the most likely to murder or be murdered 195 Blake romanced the street life and the hustler mentality and that is why he was murdered The two brothers lived in Chester Pennsylvania an industrial city in southwest Philadelphia Their entire life they were faced with negative influences as in murders drugs and other violent acts The mortality was inflicted by every age group especially the young There in the 1960s I was introduced to mortality not by the old and failing but by beautiful young men who lay wrecked after sudden explosions of violence 194 Even though violence was inflicted more by young it was being characterized by Vietnam veterans arguing fiercely about who killed more in the war I recall not long before I left for college two local Vietnam veterans-one from Marines one from the Army-arguing fiercely nearly at blows about which outfit had done the most in the war 194 With Blake being a young African American male
