A hero is one who saves others or helps the society A tragic hero however is a one who is noble and has done something to help the society but ends up in a state of catastrophe The tragic poem Antigone has a few important characters who were engaged in dreadful mishaps Antigone the woman who did the right but against the law falls to her hardship due to injusticeAntigone the daughter of Oedipus has done the job of burying her dear brother Polyneices by covering him with some dust and dirt and pouring wine over his body so he may go on his way to the underworld Sophocles 207 By achieving the honor that his brother should have for his death Antigone broke the law made by his uncle Creon This law states Polyneices is to have no burial no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him 197 As one can assume Antigone a woman puts her family before anything even if it means death for her Antigone says to Ismene her sister in the Prologue This crime is holyI am not afraid of danger if it means death it will not be the worst of the deathdeath without honor 192-193 Antigone in this impassioned yet firm statement has obviously stated that she would rather die with honor than live as a coward or traitor A brave soul like her would be considered a hero for her sacrifices she is willing to do for her family is intrepid and admirable Antigone is a strong independent and moral woman unlike her sister Ismene weak and helpless She believes her brothers are both equal in blood regardless of their actions 211 Her words resemble a mans word powerful and meaningful as she states It is the dead Not the living who make the longest demands We die forever 192 Her sentence to Ismene is so striking and stable that a man
