Arthur Millers The Crucible tells a story of a vengeful teenager that accuse a rival of witchcraft This one accusation multiplies to consume the entire village of Salem Many innocent people die in the Salem witch trials of 1692 that do not deserve to It is a great example of how a little power to one person that is unfit for it can take several lives on a crazy journey for the worst That one person is Abigail Williams and over the course of the novel she transforms from a superficial innocent teenager to an egotistical power-thirsty woman Abigail Williams is being pressured about if there was any witchcraft involved with the mysterious illness of Betty Parris Even when Betty reminds her of what she did You drank a charm to kill John Proctors wife 19 Abigail smashes her across the face and answers You never say that again19 Abigail is trying to act as innocent as possible knowing that if she gets caught for what she did she would be hung for witchcraft Reverend Parris is pushing her to tell the truth of what happened that night he is already suspicious because he discovered them Dancing like heathen in the forests10 Eventually Abigail breaks down and screams Not I sir- Tituba and Ruth 16 this is a lie to draw the towns attention off of herself and on to Tituba the black slave that no one would stand up forAbigail is starting to become psycho towards the middle of the novel We already know that Abigail has grown up in a rough childhood Abigail says I saw Indians smash my dear parents heads on the pillow next to mine 20 This could be one of the reasons she is so violent accusing all of those innocent people of witchcraft for her own good We find out that from Reverend Hale that Abigail were stabbed tonight a needle were found stuck into her belly 76
