In the novel Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger the main character Holden Caulfield is a trouble teen who lacks judgment and has a warped view of childhood Holden is one of three used to be four children of a wealthy family and his parents arent home much so they sent Holden off to boarding school Holden struggles a lot with school as he is not very dedicated and has horrible grades He does value his family especially his younger siblings Allie and Phoebe He gets kicked out of the boarding school Pency Prep he was going to after he failed all of his classes except English and didnt want to tell his parents he had been kicked out so he wanders aimlessly around New York city Before finally ending up sneaking into his own house to see his little sister Phoebe and realizing how much he missed her Holdens different feelings for each of his siblings demonstrate his attachment to innocence and his anxiety about adulthoodAllies character embodies how much Holden values childhood and Allie seems to be the only person who Holden truly believes is still and child When Stradlator asks Holden to write is essay he tells Holden that he can write it on anything he wants Holden seems to always have Allie on his mind and he rarely lets the feelings for him out This essay for Stradlator cause Holden to introduce Allies character to the reader Allie is Holdens brother that died of leukemia a few years ago Holden says Youd have liked him He was two years younger than I was but he was about fifty times as intelligent He was terrifically intelligent Salinger 49 Holden thinks of Allie in a very loving manor and describes him to the reader in a very in depth thoughtful way Holden almost convinces the reader into loving Allie Holden was deeply shaken by Allies death but he believes that Allie
