Everyone has that one person that seems like could never have a good side That is how SE Hinton the Greasers Gang leader Dally was portrayed in the book The Outsiders In the novel Dally leads the gang of hoodlums the Greasers against the rival gang the Socs SE Hinton uses the change in Dally to explore the theme that there is a good side to everyone At the beginning of the novel Dallyis seen as selfish dangerous and violent person which is how the entire world views gang of brothers For example SE Hinton wrote that They have a file on him at the police station He had been arrested got drunk he rode in rodeos lied cheated stole rolled drunks jumped small kids-- he did everything I didnt like him but he was smart and you had to respect him This quote suggests powerful emotions that Dally is using to act selfish dangerous and violent All of the powerful emotion that Dally has been holding inside he is letting out by cheating getting drunk getting in fights and riding in rodeos Another way SE Hinton showed that Dally was an unloving depressed violent person was in the quote Yet in his hard face there was a character pride and a savage defiance of the world He could never love Cherry Valance back It would be a miracle if he loved anything The part of the quote proves It would be a miracle if he loved anything shows how Dally is a very unloving person and how even if someone loved him he wouldnt love them back Dallys personality changed to selfless kind and caring towards everyone not only his gang members The events that caused this change are Johnny killing Bob which caused Johnny and Ponyboy running away and Johnny getting stuck inside the burning church The major impact of Johnny killing Bob the rival gangs leader changed Dallys personality because Dally either
