Robert B Reich a professor at the University of California writes an argumentative piece on how Wal-Mart affects the American economy He entitles his argument Dont Blame Wal-Mart As the title shows Reich is standing by Wal-Marts side he believes that the affects that Wal-Mart as on our economy is not their fault but rather the American citizens Reich argues that the American citizens have a choice to shop at Wal-Mart or at local market Wal-Mart does not force one to shop there It is Wal-Marts low prices that engage one to want to spend ones dollar there rather than another market The purpose of Reichs article is to inform the reader of the choices that the readers make it is not Wal-Marts fault for one to choose to purchase their product of another stores product but is our fault as a citizen Reich argues that the low prices that Wal-Mart offers is what initiates one to shop there He believes that Americans need to open their eyes and look at the really causeThe article Dont Blame Wal-Mart means exactly what the title portrays the article is not blaming Wal-Mart but actually blaming the buyers As a society Americans are cheap they are out to save and buy the best deals they can find It is not only Wal-Mart that is getting the best of American citizens for example amazon has great book deals and orbitz allows one to find the best airfare deals These two examples show other businesses may lose business such as local book stores Also informed through Reichs article is the idea of wages and benefits one reason that Wal-Mart is able to afford having low prices is by keeping the workers wage to minimum wage and benefits to a minimal Reich is extremely informative of why Wal-Mart the way it is he allows one to see the reasoning behind the successful rather than jumping to conclusion and blaming the business
