A tragic hero is defined as a person of great or virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy who is destined for downfall suffering or defeat Hamlet fits this definition he is a tragic hero in the play He died trying to pay revenge to the man who murdered his father That is a characteristic of being a heroMany sides of hamlet are shown in the play He is first shown as a delicate young man who is sad about the death of his father Soon after the death of his father his mother married his uncle Claudius This left him angry He is filled with sadness and anger all at the same time We see that Hamlet is a complex character His tragedy begins The emotional roller coaster Hamlet goes through leads him to consider suicide This shows his weak side Since his father was King of Denmark Hamlet believes that he should be king and dethrone Claudius He feels this kind of revenge would do justice to his father His father appears one night as a ghost and tells Hamlet that Claudius is the one who killed him This makes Hamlet promise to make sure Claudius is dead First he married his mother soon after his fathers death then he took the throne as king and now it is out that he killed the king Hamlet cannot help but scheme about killing him In line 102-103 Hamlet says thy commandment all alone shall live within the book and volume of my brain This shows that he is very determined to kill Claudius This was Hamlets tragic decision His downfall now begins Everyone Hamlet trusted turns his back on him they betray him As the tragic hero he does not let anything stand in his way to achieve his ultimate goal The disloyalty distracts him and makes him lose focus on the goal he has set at the beginning of the play He spends too
