Maslows theory is unique in the sense that it involves the whole person and human motivations based on every aspect of the person not just a certain area or a specific function He believed that the behavior a person displayed stemmed from various motives and wasnt necessarily known to the individual His third assumption was that people are continually motivated by one need or another Feist 2009 The last theory that Maslow proposed was that people regardless of where they are located sex beliefs are motivated to meet the same basic needs but the way in which they satisfy these are different based on culture Professor Don Gorman in his article Maslows Hierarchy and Social and Emotional Wellbeing stated the idea that the wellbeing of a person is determined by not only the internal factors of self-actualization but also on the external factors determined by our society Gorman 2010Maslows hierarchy of needs is designed like stair steps or a pyramid with lower level basic needs which need to be met in order to progress to the next level or higher need He claimed that if the lower level basic needs were not met it would be impossible to achieve self-actualization These needs are as followed physiological safety love and belongingness esteem and finally self-actualization There are however three more needs that are commonly discussed and used in our everyday life that branch off from esteem and actualization These needs include the need to know and understand and the need for aesthetic beauty E 2011He also hypothesized that not all personalities would follow his proposed hierarchy stating a possible reversal of needs based on the individual person It was also proposed that personality dimensions such as introversion or extroversion might also be a contributing factor in determining a persons needs Adding to personality dimensions Maslow also believed that even though most behaviors have a cause some
