My life in Pink 1997 is a film about the challenges of gender identity and the struggles of accepting unconventional gender norms In the beginning of the movie Ludovic Favre a 7-year-old boy and his family were celebrating a housewarming after moving into new home in the suburbs The Fabres were adapting well to the community but Ludovic exhibited behaviors that were considered inappropriate For example during the housewarming party Ludovic greeting his neighbors wearing make-up high heels and his sisters dress Ludovic was completely confident and comfortable wearing make-up high heels and his sisters dress but his parents Hanna and Pierre were embarrassed Ludovic then started questioning his gender because of the reaction he received from his parents For instance when Ludovic became friends with Jrme the son of his fathers boss Ludovic was certain that he would marry Jrme because he would not be a boy Ludovic was convinced he would marry Jrme so he told his mother but she become horrified and told Ludovic that boys do not marry boys Hanna was more concerned with her son being different than accepting her transgender child Ludovic was expressing confusion about his gender so he asked his sister Hanna if he was a girl or a boy Hanna responded saying he was biological a boy and then explained to him that girls have two X chromosomes and boys have an X and Y Ludovic then theorized that he was a girlboy because God accidentally dropped his other X chromosome in the trash and that he needs to find his other X Ludovics parents struggled to understand his behavior and blamed him for developing the friction between his parents and the community Ludovics parents would rather him follow social norms than to accept Ludovic as being transgender
