The book Pride and Prejudice contains many different kinds of themes and one of the major themes of this story is the role of women in the 18th century In the Bennet family there are five Bennet sisters with all different personality However they share a common strong interest in marriage They are so enthusiastic about bridegrooms with wealth and good appearance Except Jane Bennet who is mild-mannered and restrained other girls are extremely interested about men Especially their mother Mrs Bennet makes a great fuss even when a wealthy young man moves in to their neighbor It seems marriage is their ultimate goal in their life and it is different from modern women who highly regard career with putting off marriage For example my cousin postponed her wedding ceremony because she wants be a teachers and needs more time to prepare Therefore the date of the wedding is still undecided During the 18th century many women wanted to marry into a rich family at an early age and it was seriously important to them It is obvious that Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice is not an essay about criticism of differences of class or gender but I can see those features of the background related to women during the time when Austen wrote this romance story and there are different characters from different class making a gap and trouble It is worth to study about what affect the Bennet sisters Characteristic and view of values with comparison to the role of women in today In the Pride and Prejudice the author mainly describes love between a wealthy man and a pretty girl from a middle-class family In the beginning Elizabeth Bennet does not like Mr Darcys attitudes and her first impression of him was really bad because he is full of conceit and arrogant in her eyes Moreover she later knows that Mr Darcy stop his friend Mr Bingleys marriage because he
