In our society many people look to different sources for love because of a longing for it in their own lives For example young girls are constantly told of stories about princesses finding their true loves kiss and their happy ever after As they grow older many times they realize that the fairy-tale love they once knew of probably will not come true Therefore it is that reason that when they experience these characters that are not necessarily real people may envision what they want to happen instead of what should actually happen which is what happens to Eliza and Higgins relationship in Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw The two characters do not get along yet some hope that their tension towards each other is love rather than it actually just being dislike However Shaw was trying to portray his characters as how the world sees them rather than how our imaginations would see them Shaw does this by having the characters clearly state their feelings toward the opposite gender For that reason there is no possible way that Eliza and Higgins could have a romantic relationship because of the realistic aspects of Pygmalion and their opinions of each otherThroughout Pygmalion there is a constant theme of class distinctions and what can happen when one can talk properly Higgins a phonetic tries to help Eliza by turning her into a duchess by changing the way she speaks This seems like the nice thing to do but in reality Higgins is doing this for himself When he first meets Eliza he is appalled by her and finds her absolutely disgusting by calling her baggage and even saying that a woman who utters such depressing and disgusting sounds has no right to be anywhere- no right to live 33 On the other hand Higgins opinions of women in general are not too far from the cruelty of his opinion of Eliza I cant be bothered with
