Though George Orwell may have never shot an elephant it is clear that he can write an essay durable enough to be read even now It is an arguable fact whether or not George did shoot the elephant yet he was able to convey his idea of Imperialism quite effectively He knew just what pressure from crowd does to a man He knew well enough what one does to avoid looking like a fool He offers his extensive knowledge up to us in his essay Shooting an ElephantThe plot goes like this George Orwell was an Imperial English police officer in Burma He like most people hates his job In Burma the feelings towards the English were very bitter George witnessed the cruel acts of the Empire first hand The day George realized the evilness of the Empire started out with a phone call from another station across town An elephant had been struck with must and had broken out from his chains The elephant was ravaging the locals George took his gun and set out to ask locals about this elephant The locals seemed to dodge questions giving him vague answers George over hears the shooing away of children Upon investigating George found a twisted and devilish looking corpse Signs of trampling lead George to believe the elephant had slain this man Only then did the locals give him the whereabouts of the elephant He sent for an elephant rifle When he got the rifle a crowd started to form He walked down to the paddy where the elephant was located An enormous crowd gathered in great anticipation The elephant was peaceful his bout of must appeared to be over Looking at the crowd George knew then that he had to shoot the elephant In this moment Georges epiphany became clear the moment that when white man turns tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys Shooting 206 He becomes a puppet as
