With the use of experiments throughout history scientists made medical discoveries that have made it easier for the human race to treat their diseases Regardless of whether performing these experiments on humans or animals nobody has paid much attention to this behavior In the novel State of Wonder by Ann Patchett and the Tuskegee article both show examples of human beings being treated for medical experimentation Scientists are taking these innocent peoples autonomy not caring for what each one has to say However is putting a group of individuals health at stake enough logic to help a greater majority Or perhaps is this violating their rights as humans and a right to ones privacy These medical experiments show unethical behavior as human beings were being used as lab rats however it also shows examples of ways it could be ethical In State Of Wonder we learn about Marina an employee of a drug company sent to the Brazilian jungle to determine the efficiency of a fertility drug in a tree bark However after time researching Marina discovers that the tree bark also serves as a vaccination for malaria Marinas work partner Alan Saturn a scientist who believes that infecting the Lakashi tribe males is ethical to save a greater majority of men in the tribe For example he says if they get sick for a couple of days in the name of developing a drug that could protect the entire tribe the entire world then I say so be it Patchett 295 Saturns concern was to develop the vaccine and protect the greater amount of people however still impacting a great majority of the Lakashi tribe When talking about the process of infecting the men with malaria Saturn states I suppose if this man had a lawyer it could be said that he hadnt agreed or that he hadnt been fully aware of what he was agreeing to Patchett 294 If the Lakashi men were
