In The Great Gatsby F Scott Fitzgerald presents many characters in a negative manner For instance Tom Buchanan is a character who commits adultery and is very abusive However the negative characters are not just men the portrayal of women is also negative In The Great Gatsby F Scott Fitzgerald describes women in very negative terms Three women who are portrayed negatively are Jordan Baker Myrtle Wilson and Daisy BuchananFitzgerald presents Jordan Baker as voyeuristic While Tom and Daisy Buchanan Nick Carraway and Jordan Baker were dining out on a rosy-colored porch Fitzgerald 15 Tom receives a phone call Tom leaves the room in order to attend the call when suddenly Daisy threw her napkin on the table and excused herself and went into the house Fitzgerald 15 Nick attempts to converse with Jordan Baker However she interrupts him Sh in a warning voice A subdued impassioned murmur was audible in the room beyond and Ms Baker leaned forward unashamed trying to hear Fitzgerald 15 Jordan then proceeds to continue listening to what Tom and Daisy may possibly be talking or arguing Jordan being a voyeur is significant because she is the character that first presents Nick Carraway with the information about Daisy and Toms life She presents people with the information she has gathered by eavesdropping into their conversations She likes being aware of what of happening in the lives of others She does not feel any shame in doing so Jordan Baker is also the one to tell Nick about Jay Gatsby and that he is in love with Daisy Buchanan This involves Nick into the lives of Tom and Daisy Buchanan and Jay GatsbyNot only does Fitzgerald present Jordan Baker as negative but he also portrays Myrtle Wilson as negative since she is adulterous During a party at the apartment that Tom Buchanan had bought for Myrtle Wilson and himself there is a conversation about the spouses of Tom Buchanan and Myrtle
