It had been a long day of searching in the fields finally in the near distance stood a sable antelope calmly grazing on the grass Ten seconds away disguised in the thick forest was a hunter and his son aiming at the antelope Before he could take a shot he was ambushed by foreigners they both fought with hope that they would escape but they were overwhelmed and captured They cringed in fear as they and other captives are herded into a great wooden beast Unsure of what awaits them they sobbed and hope for a route to escape The course of history has been marked by dreadful crimes all centered on slavery Many people suffered under the rule of the whites Out of the many people that were slave was Fredrick Douglass who later became the most successful abolitionist and went on to change Americas view of slavery through his writing and actions In Douglasss analysis of the kinds of oppression practiced in slave time he painted a powerful picture of what it was like to be a slave how the world looked from the bottom and what kind of place America was when the land of the free was only free for white people Douglass analyzed injustice the incompatibility of education and slavery and Christianity and religion Past ideologies are still perpetuated in our society today therefore the conditions of the present days can be examined in consideration to events in the past and correlation can be drawn between old thinking and modern Douglass says I speak advisedly when I say thisthat killing a slave or any other colored person in Talbot County Maryland is not treated as a crime either by the courts or the community 956 This form of oppression still prevails in modern times for instance recently in Detroit area Renisha McBride a 19-year-old African-American woman was shot dead by a white homeowner on his front porch Her family
