Forgiveness is an action as well as an emotion which is responsible for laying rest to hate grudges and any need for revenge While a Utopia may call for all to forgive any sin committed against them there are circumstances where not every sin may be forgiven Using Victor E Frankls novel A Mans Search for Meaning as well as Sue Graftons murder mystery D is for Deadbeat and director s movie Dead Man Walking I will explore cases where not every sin can be forgiven due to an inability to move forward a repeated offender as well as the severity of the sinInability to move forwardThrough the film A Dead Man Walking we are introduced to a circumstance where the inability to move forward and release the strong presence of hate ultimately hinders the ability to forgive This film introduces us to Matthew Poncellet who is being convicted for the murders and rape of Walter Percy and Hope Delacroix The victims are leaving behind two sets of parents who are unable to cope with the death of their children as well as Sister Helens attempt to withdraw the death sentence of Poncellet Sister Helen a religious woman well known in her community agrees to aid Matthew in his time before his death Although Helen does not particularly like Matthew because of the charges against him she admits I dont like him very much but he needs my help As Helen tries to help Matthew in his fight against the death sentence the victims families become outraged and when Helen makes an attempt to apologize the families end up in even more disgust as Mr Percy breaks out yelling Matthew is not a person This is an animal except animals dont burn and kill their own kind As a result of Helens spiritual duty to Matthew she then is isolated from these two families herself Not only do the victims families hold onto their
