Botticellis The Birth of Venus shows four beings The foremost character is Venus the Roman version of Aphrodite She is the center of the piece Her skin is luminescent pale and perfect Everything curves in around her orbiting towards her arrival The wind Zephyr and his mate embrace Venus blowing locks of her hair and violet flowers around her His winds caress her vessel towards the waiting nymph Ora She stands waiting for her new mistress to arrive ready to cover her Botticelli painted Venus in the Contrapposto stance all her weight shiften to one foot realisticly it is an impossible posture to model Her neck and torso are elongated and her body is curvy an aspect of beauty during the Renaissance He acsents with gold which became popular painters in the second half of the fifteenth century employed the colour gold abundantly in their paintings The color gold had a great significance one of opulence and surely Botticellis use of gold in the Birth of venus conveys such opulence The waves are composed of v-shapes and the figures cast no shadows the painting is purely imagination and fantasy Bernardson Berenson describes Botticellis style as Never pretty scarcely ever charming or even attractive rarely correct in drawing and seldom satisfactory in colour in types ill favoured in feeling acutely intense and even dolorous but he goes on to question why What makes Botticellis art so enrapturing Filled with confusion but made into beauty if we are such that have an imagination of touch and of movement that is easy to stimulate we feel a pleasure in BotticelliFrom the death of the Middle Ages came the age of rebirth The Renaissance era became a time of learning and literature art and culture It fell between the 14th and 17th centuries a time dedicated to modernism The Renaissance led to a humanistic belief that man was the center of the universe The height of art
