Clearly the most unfortunate people are those who must do the same thing over and over again every minute or perhaps twenty to a minute They deserve the shortest hours and the highest pay--John Kenneth Galbraith Made to Last 1964John Galbraith is a believer in which ever job is the hardest is the one that should be accompanied by the biggest pay check in this quote he is attempting to persuade the employers of assembly line workers to raise their wages with the Equal Pay Act of 1963 passing a year ago this topic is still up for heated debate Some places of employment require different things such as physical fitness intelligence or wittiness What ever the job may require the scale of payment should be based on the difficulty of the job Assembly line workers especially deserve higher pay and the shortest hours due to the extremity of their work Not to mention all of the quotas and time limits they have to meet as Galbraith puts this into perspective by saying every minute or perhaps twenty to a minute with all these requirements wouldnt you want higher wages tooClearly in America this issue is repeated again and again we see the pay differences in doctors verses teachers movie stars verses military soldiers and big sisters verses little sisters Well the last issue is a little melodramatic compared to the other two but it has to do with my personal experience relating to Mr Galbraiths topic A simple word such as allowance having such a grand impact on a 16 year olds life My sister being younger than I receives all of the effortless chores whilst I win the difficult ones Nevertheless the payment we receive at end of the week is that of equal status I think I deserve shorter hours and higher pay because of the time and effort I put in But our employer my mother thinks otherwise This reoccurring
