In The Burden of Innocence Coping with a Wrongful Imprisonment Kathryn Campbell and Myriam Denov did a research on the confronting strategies about being wrongly convicted Kathryn and Myriam state that people who maintain themselves as innocence must have their method to overcome the hard life in prison in order to wait for appeal Campbell Denov 2004 In this paper I will evaluate the study that conducted by Campbell and DenovCampbell and Denov come up with two research questions that are related to the wrongly convicted individuals The first question is about what the opinion that the individuals have on the issue of wrongly arrest imprisonment and release Campbell Denov 2004 p139 The second question is about the experience that the individuals have during their incarceration Campbell and Denov are interested in this aspect of study because they found that the existing research reports put more attention on the problems and causes of wrongful conviction These reports less focus on the opinions and experiences that the wrongly convicted individuals have The methods or the ways that the individuals used to adjust their life in prisons as they maintain their innocence are fewer being discussed as well The researchers also want to explore the outcomes that they receive throughout the process in criminal justice system because of their maintenance on innocence In addition I believe this study falls in the exploratory or contextual type of research because of number of reasons According to the definition of exploratory or contextual research its purpose is to describe and display phenomena as experienced by the study population in fine-tuned detail and in the study participants own terms Ritchie and Lewis 2003 p27 It also provides a pathway for researchers to find out or understand the issue which the participants have relation to from the participants perspectives In the study that Campbell and Denov conducted participants who are the wrongly convicted individuals describe the conditions that they encountered
