Childhood is a major part of ones life as it sets the tone for how one will grow up to become an individual in society The genre bildungsroman can be seen in both Harper Lees To Kill A Mockingbird and Ruldolfo Anayas Bless Me Ultima Identity is such an important theme in both novels therefore bildungsroman is a very true genre to classify each novel with In Lees and Anayas novels both Scout and Antonio are influenced by outside sources which allows each character to grow as an individual in society Growing up in Maycomb is never easy for Scout Finch as it is full of many racists and different types of people She and her brother develop within this society in which they live in by experiencing different situations with different people such as Boo Radley Dill and Bob Ewell Out of everyone Scout could listen to in the society she chooses her father Atticus to help guide her through life With his guidance Scout is able to grow as an individual without being shot down by the rest of society In such a setting where it is east to grow up and become racist Scout is able to grow past that From Atticus she learns to respect each member of the Maycomb society equally Truly the genre of bildungsroman is evident in To Kill A Mockingbird as the novel follows Scouts growth She is showing the rest of society that is was possible to treat everyone equally and with respect in such a diverse town Similar to Scout Antonio looks for guidance from someone who would benefit his individual self due to the fact that his future was such a blur Having the constant battle between his mother and fathers side is difficult for Antonio as it lead to many arguments and difficult decisions However Antonio looks to Ultima for the answer During the time that Ultima stays with Antonio he feels as
