The health care system is designed in order to provide health needs such as pretention of disease illness or injuries As a utilitarian when presented with the concept of universal health care provided by the state you have to consider what would create the greatest amount of happiness for all citizens Bentham believed that all humans seek pleasure and the avoidance of pain Notes Set5 Where as Mills believed the same thing as Bentham Although there were a few differences between Bentham and Mill Mill believed that certain pleasures had a hierarchy over others Mill believed that intellectual pleasures were better than sensual ones Whereas Bentham believed that all pleasures are equal and that in order to increase happiness that you must increase pleasure and decrease pain Both Bentham and Mill as utilitarians believed that health played a large role in overall happiness The said that ones degree of please depends directly on ones health they also said that the greater the public health the greater the societys pleasure and the less its pain As a generalization of their beliefs when it comes to health they believe that good laws would therefore protect and promote health for all citizens Notes Sept5Based upon the principle of wellness we are presented with questions of how can one be virtues or happy when they are too sick to ask Notes Aug29 According to Mill one must be mentally and physically healthy in order to make rational and ethical decisions Therefore is one is too sick to think rationally and clearly they are no longer happy but now they are in pain So if a person is thus unable to axis to receive medical help or attention the amount of pleasure is decreased According to the principles previously stated as a utilitarianism using Bentham and Mills ethics seeing as pleasure is everything by providing universal health care would provide happiness for a majority of people
