Humanity by ee Cummings is about humanity as the name implies and its many actions towards things but the fact that all humans want to do is focus on death It gives us mental images about stuff humans do in their daily lives For example Pawn your intelligence for a drink displays the very direct human actions at the end Cummings just cuts to the chase with slandering it about death It shifts from loving to hating and life and death It also compares motifs to daily life with the tie in of someone who just stands by and tweets about a person drowning rather than saving them Throughout the story there are some big meanings about stupidity worry and elaboration Humanity is stupid when it comes to certain situations in life Instead of worrying about the life humans live humans just live carelessly not thinking about sinning when happiness is right in front of their face All humanity wants to do is elaborate or focus on death A metaphor depicting humanities stupidity is When youre hard up you pawn your intelligence to buy a drink It describes life and the stupid things humans do when they dont think they can just be free Unflinchingly applaud all songs containing the words country home and mother when sung at the old Howard is yet another lovely depiction of how humanity blindly follows the accepted norm It is common for humans to just follow the accepted norm and overtime it just becomes a habit Another metaphor Cummings displayed touches on the way humanity lets things happen even if humans cannot control them When ones pride gets in the way from ones feelings it keeps her away from stupid mistakes This idea is shown when Cummings wrote youre flush pride keeps you from the pawn shop You are continually committing nuisances but more especially in your own house
