Postmodernism is a cultural movement which included architecture art literature cinema culture and philosophy that had a significant drift away from the writings of Modernism There are countless characteristics that are unique to the aspect of postmodern literary writing however one of the essential traits is definitely fragmentation Fragmentation is the concept of breaking or pulling apart information as the story accelerates Unlike most modern literary writings that have a message or moral fragmented themes plots or characters have a hidden message which require deconstruction In the movie Mr Nobody incoherence chaos and open endings play a significant part in the fragmentation of the films main plot The idea of Nemos life may be a series of choices needed to be made or a fragment of ones imagination which has to do with the incoherence and choas of the movie Every time a new situation opened up for Nemo there was always room for changes or spontaneity that could affect the future outcome thus there was no limits or restrictions which brings on the characteristic of open endings in fragmented writing The two sub-traits of fragmentation incoherence chaos and open endings focus on developing the main plot Incoherence is a lack of clear direction basically meaning a chaos filled plot with little to no control In Mr Nobody fragmentation is a key theme however incoherence and chaos is a sub-trait of fragmentation that focuses on the development of the plot The films lack of direction and clarity is a keen attribute to the plot For instance the movie starts off with Nemo as an adult an elderly and a child There is no age developmental plot or the average rising falling action Most movies would have three different sections where the child grows into a man then lives life and becomes an elderly Some people may believe that the child is narrating others may believe that it is the elder man However the fact
