The implication of Thomas Paines metaphor My own mind is my own church implies that Paines common sense and that of his minds logical reasoning serves him more justifiably than that of the creed ideology of the churches Thus Paine believes that churches are human inventions set up to terrify and enslave mankind and monopolize power and profit Paine 654 Upon his beliefs on common sense and logical reasoning Paine maligned all Gods revelation to certain individual by slandering the words of God as hearsay evidence Nonetheless it was also common sense and logical reasoning not the churches ideology that led to the discovery of scientific principles in which contributed to human convenience and the true theology It is hearsay upon hearsay and I do not choose to rest my belief upon such evidence Paine 655 Gods revelation to man do not align with Thomas Paines notion of common sense and logical reasoning Thomas Paine does not believe that a single certain man could communicate or hear a revelation made from God Because it is not logical in the common sensethat if God wanted to voice his revelation God would have done so with every other not just to one man Thus Paine explains by giving an example of Gods revelation that was giving upon Mosesexplaining that if there is no internal evidence of divinity people should not to believe it Paine 655 And according to Paineif it is true that God did revealed something written or verbally to that manthan that revelationwould only be for the person who received it thus if that man tells everyone else it would just be hearsay to every other Paine 655 All in all Paine does not believe logically that all churches have a similar story a story of one single man being the voice for all others like Moses and god Mahomet and God and God and Jesus Man cannot make principles he can only discover them
