In the poem Crossing the Bar and the song Im Moving On by Rascal Flatts the topic of leaving what they know is discussed Whether it be leaving by death or leaving by moving on from the past both texts still address leaving Crossing the Bar and Im Moving On discuss leaving in the idea of death moving on and the issue of timeIn the poem Crossing the Bar leaving is discussed as dying The speaker in this poem discusses death by saying And may there be no sadness of farewell When I embark 11-12 By saying this the speaker is saying that when he dies he doesnt want to be missed He wants everyone to move on and to not be sad about his death The speaker then says that I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar 15-16 These lines can be interpreted as that when the speaker dies he hopes to see his life as he lived it and hopes that he lived it well The speaker wants to leave the world knowing that he is leaving good behind and that is what was done By talking about dying the speaker is addressing leaving in a way that many would not In the song Im Moving On leaving is discussed as moving on from the past By starting off by saying Ive been burdened with blame trapped in the past for too long Im movin on 5-6 the speaker shows that one thing is coming to an end and now something else will be starting The speaker realizes its time to leave his past and to move on to something better The song ends with saying Ive loved like I should but lived like I shouldnt I had to lose everything to find out Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road Im movin on 21-24 meaning
