AbstractThis paper describes the three rhetorical appeals of ethos pathos and logos In a mental illness awareness video called Change a Mind About Mental Illness by Bring Change 2 Mind the three rhetorical appeals are used as a call to action This essay analyzes how effective Bring Change 2 Mind was in using these rhetorical appeals Through the video and music found in the commercial an analysis of its effectiveness was conducted and is discussed in this paper Bring Change 2 Mind is an national anti stigma campaign founded by Glenn Close an Emmy Golden Globe and Tony award winning actressMission StatementVisual AnalysisThis commercial is directed towards anyone who is uneducated about mental illnesses and the effects they have on those who suffer from them It was created by a celebrity spokesperson that has a sister with a mental illness She attempts to raise awareness in the commercial to reduce the stigma to improve the lives of those affected by mental illnessThe purpose of the commercial as the title suggests was to fight inaccurate and hurtful representations of mental illnesses in hopes of reducing the stigma There are many ways in which the creator attempts to do this It all begins with a slow intro focusing on pairs of people in various busy settings such as bus and subway stations Then in draws in on the duos shirts which plainly describe one mental illness and one supportive person in their life For example one couples shirt has mom written on it and the other reads schizophrenia The mom has her arm around her son in an attempt to appeal to the audiences emotion through the use of pathos Then it moves on to another couple of someone with a battle buddy suffering from post traumatic stress disorder This continues as viewers listen to the impactful song Say by John Meyer which plays in the background of the entire 60 second commercial This inspirational song stresses
