Happiness is key is everyday life In Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle Aristotle states that the highest good is happiness In the article When Growth Outpaces Happiness by Richard A Easterlin Easterlin discusses how the Chinese people were not happy when the economy was improving The article supports how Aristotle thought about happiness because the Chinese are concerned more about their permanent food housing health care and childcare than how much money they are making Also the Chinese want to make sure they have a permanent jobs and a safety net to ensure their happiness In Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle Aristotle explains how the highest good is happiness He believes the highest good is happiness because everything you want to do goes to happiness The function of a human being is to think and act in accord to reason Aristotle says that if someone can think and act excellently in accord with reason than they are happy He thinks that we should try to find happiness for happiness and for nothing else He says achieving wealth is to get the money to make us happy not to just have the money If we do these things well then Aristotle believes we can achieve happiness and happiness is the highest good In the article When Growth Outpaces Happiness by Richard A Easterlin Easterlin shows through surveys taken in China that Chinese people were unhappy when the economy started improving The program called The Iron Rice Bowl allowed the Chinese to have permanent jobs food housing healthcare and childcare This program was overturned due to the improvements to the economy but Chinese people started becoming unhappy even though they were getting products like TVs Refrigerators and washing machines All of the studies showed that the Chinese people were not happy when the products were increasing This shows that improving the economy doesnt make people happier they need permanent jobs and asocial safety net to be happy in lifeDuring
