I chose to read this article because of all the great information I felt was inside This government document was very lengthy but had great detail This document goes to tell that service is a strong and powerful point of leverage for America What exactly does that mean point of leverage This means that the American citizens that give their time for the community are Americas strength these citizens make up America These citizens strengthen Americas compassion and communities Each and every volunteer improves somebodys lives Whether it is somebody they know or somebody that they will never even meet Each action has an equal reaction a positive action has a positive reaction Volunteers have helped many situations and tragedys that America has been through Without the help of the strong hearted volunteers many things that have been done to help our country would not have been possible One great example is 911 Between the smoke and ashes scattered in the streets we saw America engage in extraordinary acts of compassion These people have helped make up for what is today a thirty year high of volunteering in America At this rate we can solve problems and help to restore the hope in our communities Many people that volunteer their time as a child or young adult are more likely to do the same as an adult Communities with higher levels of volunteering amongst them also have a lower crime rate and have strong parental engagement Typically communities with more volunteers also have a better trust and knowledge of their neighbors So as you can tell volunteering has many positive effects on not just the individual but the community and the individual neighborhoods The author of this source was a statement from David Eisner I trust this author because he is the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service This was a Government Document coming from the House education and Labor I
