There is much to be gained from people of all walks of life particularly those with a difficulty that they must endure their entire life I attended a support group where I learned about the lives of those who are suffering with diabetes This group provided its participants with support encouragement and necessary information relevant to their disease Both the group members and the participants contributed to the discussion The diabetes support group that I attended was located in Brooklyn There were about twenty-five people in attendance The group was scheduled to last about an hour and a half The purpose of the group was to offer support and knowledge for people of all ages with diabetes The session included many health and safety precautions that are important for people with diabetes to know The group leader was a registered nurse employed in Brooklyn She provided information about diabetes for the participants in a friendly and relaxed manner All the information she mentioned was important and relevant for the daily life of a person with diabetesAs I looked around the room during the support group I noticed the large diversity of people There were people of many different races ages and backgrounds Some may have been professionals and others appeared to have been retirees All these people who gathered together had one thing in common- they had diabetes It was interesting to think that such diverse people can share something in common and could learn from each other This was a great learning experience for me I gained insight about diabetes that I had never known I had heard of the disease in the past but I never realized how careful a person with diabetes must be with what they eat and everything they do throughout the day They must continually keep track of their sugar and blood levels and everything they do throughout the day is affected by it Having a healthy
