The first time I saw itsauntering past the art display I had caught sight of this foreign yet mesmerizing type of art I was breathless as I looked overevery paintingeach piece more stunning than the next I must have been paralyzed in pure amazement because for that moment I could only focus on those works of art time must have been standing still The first time I heard its name I was perplexedsince the exotic term is spelled batik whereas itspronunciation sounds more like boutique When I learned that the curriculum for next years art class had censoredmaking batiks Ill admit I was more than disappointed That summer I sought batik-making advice and researched how to tackle batiks single-handedly all to no availAs my senior year draws nearer to completionwhat better way to end it than making my senior project something Ive always wanted to do Having never made anytype of batik I will face mistakes it may not look beautiful and the colors I chose might even evoke a sense of nauseaThe bottom line is it wont be perfect To me art has never been aboutperfectionism its aboutaccomplishment upon completion To those who are unfamiliar with this form of art batiks are designed pieces of cloth which can be worn for fashion usage or displayed as art To the untrained eye this type of medium is can be confused as a painting however its completely different Its made by applying wax to certain areas followed by being dipped in dye The wax protects the certain areas of the fabric which enables them to be dyed another color This type art is fascinating because you can use vibrant-colored dyes and extravagant designs the results aresimply stunning The idea of symbolizationwithina batik has been lost and artists are now focused on envisioning patterns for sarongs or batik clothing This type of batik form has been recognized and introduced from region to region Batik art has spread
