Darlene Lewis decided when she was thirteen that she wanted to be anurse She was admitted to a hospital and instead of going to thechildrens ward she was in the adult womens ward She saw how hernurses were and decided that she wanted to be like that too Darlene started school getting her LPN license to practice nursingThis was received through a school of nursing program at South BaltimoreGeneral hospital Then she went back to school to get her Associatesdegree in Registered Nursing through a two year program at Anne ArundelCommunity College Then she took a nursing test to certify in OncologyThis was a very difficult test but she passed it and she has beencertified in Oncology for twelve years now She worked at a bedside forfifteen years After five years she became a nurse manager for the nextten years She went back to school again at Notre Dom and received herBSN Bachelors in Science Nursing Now she is back in school at theUniversity of Walden for her MSN masters She also travels thecountry to educate people Once she gets her Masters she will be able toteach at a University level Darlenes yearly income for nursing is 84000 This is not includingthe money that she makes for traveling and teaching She told me thatshe would never consider changing her career or even what she isspecialized in She has been offered jobs in the emergency room andother areas but she chose not to because she loves what she does Nowif only more people were this passionate about their jobs Darlene said that she would definitely recommend this job to anyonebecause it has stability good money and you have the opportunity tomake a difference Some benefits for this job are making a difference inhealth care good salary and wonderful dental and medical plans Thereare also many different areas you can specialize in just to be a nurseNow that that is said there are some disadvantages You
