Bridget's feedback:
"Your opening summary of the novel is good and helps place the reader in the action for your body paragraph discussion, but the analysis that comes next is a little confusing in terms of your paper's overall intention and argumentation. The specific plot points you bring up make sense and are easy to follow--you've done a good job picking specific details to help guide your reader--but the overall ideas you are conveying are not clear: this means the thesis of the paper is not on the page yet. You use the term "setting" a number of times (topic sentences of the two body paragraphs, for example), but the discussion seems more about conflict, plot, and character struggle. Take a look at your overall argument: if you are making an overall point about the use of setting, walk your reader through this. Otherwise, think about if there are some other literary devices and terms that would be more appropriate for your paper's focus. You want to make sure you reader can follow your ideas! Another way to make sure your reader can follow you easily is to proofread: I noticed errors that were also affecting clarity."
