Who Says First Place Is Best Weve seen it a hundred times television commercials that depict the strong role a person plays in influencing what their younger siblings do or refrain from The boy is playing with his younger brother at the park They are having a great time and the younger boy is ecstatic as he is spending the afternoon with the coolest person in the world As the young boy runs off his older brother dips behind a tree to smoke marijuana with his friends Just as the young boy turns around his grin instantly turns to a frown as he notices his brothers wrongdoing Responding to his brothers reaction the older boy too makes an expression that implies what am I doing The message says You smoke pot to be cool but what about the people who already think youre cool Being an older brother can be hard The idea that an older sibling acts as a role model for his younger brothers and sisters is one that can have a great effect on someone Because they know their younger sibling is always watching people may actually do things that they may otherwise refrain from or choose not to engage themselves in activities in which they would otherwise indulge As I am the oldest I have always been the first child to go through the walks of life My parents call me the experimental child as it seems as though their ideas for raising children are tested on me modified for my brother then perfected for our younger sister Of course this is not actually the case as they have always striven to provide me with the best possible childhood but it is a humorous metaphor Their experiments were not always pleasurable I was the first to go from a public school to a private one a move that I liked at first but now regret I was the first
