Self esteem is how a person feels about themselves and the feeling of pride they have in their self If a student has a low self esteem this could affect their life and simple task they do everyday especially in school and with their school work Its good to feel good about yourself but the bad thing is that this could make you over confident Most kids self esteem is based on their interactions with others and the environment that surrounds them When they have a low self esteem this will also put a lot of pressure on their parents as well because most wont know what to do or how to react to this Self esteem has no clear or obvious intellectual origins and no major psychological theorist made it a central concept Vitz 1995 When children are having problems with self esteem some psychologist focus more on the potential of the person since it may be difficult to trace the source of the problem As a psychologist you would want your patient to have self worth where they have respect and confidence in their selve However though was a person becomes ego-centered where they feel they can ignore failures is way different and they need help In 1989 there was a study of mathematical skill that compared students in eighteen different countries and American students were ranked the lowest and Korean students where the highest Vitz 1995 They also asked the students how they felt they did and America students ranked the highest while Korean students ranked the lowestIt is always good starting at a young age that a child feels accomplished because as a result they will have an appropriate sense of self esteem Many teachers feel that their students shouldnt be graded because if students fail a test project or any other assignment this could crush their self esteem and possibly will carry on with them resulting
